Transport Around Jordan

Looking for the best way to reach Wadi Rum? Below you’ll find helpful information about how to meet up with us and the different travel options from Petra and Aqaba.

Getting around Jordan can sometimes feel like a challenge, especially with the language barrier and the lack of formal street addresses—even in major cities like Amman. That’s why having a reliable taxi driver can make all the difference.

If you’ve already booked with us, we’re happy to assist with your transportation:

  • Leaving Wadi Rum: We can help you arrange a taxi back to your next destination. Just let us know before your final night in the desert so we can organize a trusted driver for you.

  • Coming to Wadi Rum: When you book your tour, feel free to ask if you’d like us to arrange transportation from Petra, Aqaba, or elsewhere. We’re glad to help!

We can also provide the contact details of trusted local drivers we’ve worked with for years—just ask.

Other Options
During school term time, there is an early bus (around 6:00 AM) from Aqaba to Wadi Rum used by teachers. This is not a tourist service and information is limited.

Alternatively, you can take the Petra bus as far as the highway junction (3 JD per person), then cross the road and wait at the shaded bench for a bus to Aqaba (1 JD per person).
This is not recommended on Fridays due to the limited number of passing buses.

  • Other Taxi Journeys Within Jordan
  • We are not currently arranging taxi journeys across Jordan. However, here are some general prices to help you plan:
  • Amman to Wadi Rum: 100 JD

  • Amman Airport to Wadi Rum: 90 JD

  • Dead Sea to Wadi Rum: 100 JD

  • Madaba to Wadi Rum: 100 JD

  • Amman City to Dead Sea: 45 JD

  • Amman City to Petra: 85 JD

  • Aqaba to Petra: 50 JD

  • Rental Car
  • Many travelers choose to explore Jordan by renting a car.
The roads are generally in good condition and not too busy, making driving relatively easy outside of Amman. Within Amman, driving can be more challenging due to traffic and navigation, but most major roads in the rest of the country are simple to follow, with signs in both Arabic and English.
  • Renting a car gives you the most flexibility, especially compared to buses which may have limited routes and schedules, or taxis which can become costly and require more coordination.
  • Some important sites in Jordan—such as Dana, the Dead Sea, Wadi Mujib, and the Desert Castles—are difficult to reach without a rental car or private driver.
  • Most rental companies in Jordan also provide GPS navigation systems, which can be a very helpful addition for visitors unfamiliar with local roads.

Arrival in Wadi Rum

Whether you are arriving by rental car, taxi, or bus from Petra, here’s how to find us easily and avoid confusion.

If You Are Arriving by Rental Car or Taxi
  • First, you will arrive at the Wadi Rum Visitor Center.
Park your car and go inside to buy your entrance ticket (5 JD unless you have the Jordan Pass).
If asked, say you have an email reservation and are meeting your guide in the village.

  • After getting your ticket, drive another 5–6 km along the tarmac road to Wadi Rum Village.
There is no charge for driving to the village (only for 4×4 vehicles entering the desert).

  • Your guide will meet you at the Wadi Rum Guest House, which is the first building on the right when you enter the village.
There is a parking area where you can leave your car safely.

  • Please call or text us when you’re close, so we know you are on your way:
    Phone/WhatsApp: +962770387173

Important Note About Taxis:
If your driver tries to transfer you to another car before the Visitor Center or in a different part of the village, do not accept. Some drivers try to hand you over to another guide for a commission. Always insist on meeting your guide directly at the Guest House.

If You Are Arriving by Bus from Petra

  • The bus departs Petra (Wadi Musa) between 6:00 – 6:30 AM and arrives in Wadi Rum around 8:30 AM.
    Price: 10 JD per person.

  • The bus first stops at the Visitor Center. One person should go quickly to buy entrance tickets while the other stays with the bus and luggage. Then the bus continues to the village.

  • Tell the driver you are meeting your guide at the Guest House in Wadi Rum Village.
If he does not stop there automatically, kindly ask to be dropped off.

  • Your guide will be waiting at the Guest House to welcome you.

Note: Some hotels in Petra may tell you the bus isn’t running to try and switch you to a shared taxi or another guide. If in doubt, contact us directly to confirm the bus schedule.

Please Be Cautious at the Visitor Center

Do not speak with the people waiting outside the Visitor Center building.
They may falsely claim to be your guide or to work with us, and they may try to collect your entrance fee themselves.

We do not meet guests at the Visitor Center. Your guide will wait for you in the village.

Buy your ticket directly from the Visitor Center desk, then drive or ride into the village to meet us.

Why We Don’t Meet at the Visitor Center

We prefer to meet in the village for several reasons:

  • The Visitor Center is 5 km from the village.

  • There is no comfortable place to sit, organize your luggage, or talk about your tour.

  • It’s much easier and more welcoming to meet in the village, where we can offer you tea, introduce your guide, and begin your adventure calmly.

Meeting all guests in the village also reduces unnecessary driving and confusion, and ensures everyone is welcomed properly.
